SETTERS JANE LOCKHART Want to know what’s hot for 2014? Who better to ask than some of Canada’s trend setters. These top designers share with us their favourite 2014 design trends. “Still trending in 2014 is the use of bright colours. Turquoise, pink, orange, and yellow will be the strongest colours in both upholstery and case goods such as dining tables and cabinets. At the other end of the spectrum, although horrifying to people who remember the 1980s, pale pink, grey, blue and green will be combined with beige, light woods and charcoal.” JANE LOCKHART INTERIOR DESIGN Jennifer Heffel HB DESIGN “My favourite trend for 2014 is the resurgence of brass, gold and warm metal tones. These finishes are showing up again and again in a variety of items from door hardware and plumbing fixtures to lighting and furniture items. Last in vogue in the seventies, this ancient metal is speaking to a 21st-century desire for luxury, timelessness and artisanship.” “My favourite 2014 trend is the “menswear look” in home décor (stripes, plaids, hounds-tooth and herringbone patterns). Using these patterns in fabric or as a design for backsplashes or flooring is always classic.” Ottoman, Iris Ottoman Zilli Home Interiors, www.zillihome.com KELLY DECK KELLY DECK DESIGN “When I look back at 2013, a year of change for many people I know, I feel that 2014 is about solidifying your personal style and buying quality, timeless basics for your home such as a good sofa with wool upholstery, linen bedding or a finely crafted wood stool.” CHRISTINE DA COSTA decor by christine Chair, Chester Collage Chair, Zilli Home Interiors, www.zillihome.com 34 CanadianHomeTrends.com Chest, Three Drawer Shaped Gold Chest Zilli Home Interiors, www.zillihome.com
