When I first met my wife at a little cafe a few years
ago, we started to chat. She asked me what I did for a
living and I explained that I was the Editor-in-Chief of a
national magazine. She said, “Your job sounds like the one
Meryl Streep had in the movie “The Devil Wears Prada”.
Surprisingly this isn't the first time that I have been compared
to this character. I quickly explained that publishing is not as
glamorous as Hollywood makes it out to be but it does have
its perks. I may not have someone that personally delivers “the
book” to me after work but I do have a “book” (a fab orange
binder) and read through it in the evenings. I also attend lavish
events, but I don't have someone beside me telling me people's
names that I can't remember. I do, however, meet a lot of
wonderful people and treasure all of Canadian Home Trends'
relationships.
We have over twenty professionals working on articles for
Canadian Home Trends each and every issue. Many of them
also work as designers in the industry. (See Canada's Trend
Setters on Page 34) I've always felt that in order to truly
immerse ourselves in and share with you, the reader, what
Canadian trends are today, I had to work with people who
have used the products that we feature. (See Laura Stein's
Trend Report on Page 24) Therefore, when these contributors
share with us why a product is more functional than another,
they are speaking from experience – like a friend sharing
wisdom from their recent renovation project.
I've worked on many design projects over the years, including
commercial and residential interiors. (See Fit for a Chef on
Page 64) My favourite projects remain the ones we design for
you. We love compiling information about furnishings and
accessories to help make your home a design haven. Just like a
friend that offers a hand, we offer our design wisdom to help
facilitate your design projects.
As you move forward into the New Year, be bold in your
design choices. Follow your gut instincts and when in doubt,
turn to your friends at Canadian Home Trends Magazine.
We're here to help.
