To the investor this is important to know. Whether investing in shares of a company or perhaps you are invested privately or even if you have invested in your own company. There are many lawsuits and even charges to owners to alcohol establishments for not cutting customers off. If customers consume cannabis on the properties of lawful cannabis dispensaries or in legal establishments (where permitted) the owner may be also be liable. Even in Ontario where at time of writing consumption is restricted to private residences, if farm gate sales are allowed and customers consume the cannabis outside on the property, the owners could in theory be sued or be held liable – just as is the case with licensed alcohol establishments.

Sadly, there are those who use social media to post misleading information that cannabis does not affect one’s ability to drive and even how they drive better after consuming cannabis. Sounds like the 70’s doesn’t it and I can still remember some in my parents’ generation assuring everyone that they drove better after a few drinks. However, per the Toronto Star link provided earlier with respect to the zero tolerance, MADD Canada’s Andrew Murie noted that “by far cannabis is the leading drug when it comes to road fatalities when drugs are present”. Safety is the goal and any benefit that accrues to the investor is ancillary or collateral.
