In May, New Brunswick Health Research Foundation, a key provincial partner of Opportunities New Brunswick, along with Shoppers Drug Mart and Tetra Bio-Pharma announced it would fund the creation of a health research chair on cannabis at St. Thomas University (STU). A second cannabis-related research chair is being launched at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). These are the first two Canadian research chairs in the field. Progressive, one would say.
In addition, a community college program was launch this year with the intent of training individuals to work in the cannabis industry, given the unique skill set that include quality control, harvesting of the plant, and caring for the plants, among other important areas. Progressive, one would say.
New Brunswick is one of the lowest cost locations in Canada, in terms of operating cost, real estate, utilities and wages. It also has bilingual services and also branding for the francophone population in Canada, not to mention a low-cost energy producer. Progressive, one would say.
Next time you plant in your garden, read the label on the bag of peat moss. More than likely, it says: " Made in New Brunswick." As the second largest peat exporter in the world, the largest share of Canada's peat moss comes from the northeastern area of the province which we refer to as the Acadian Peninsula. The region's moist climate and flat terrain make it an ideal spot for harvesting peat. Peat moss to me, doesn’t sound all too progressive.
