article … paid promotion about a small company that is hoping to be successful once it receives its license and/or various other approvals and milestones?

If you go to various newsfeed websites from this industry you will come across them before long. Paid promoters prefer those sites because their content is comingled with actual true news releases and other value added information plus it is their target audience. There is no magic pill available readily in the public domain that you can swallow to double your ROI or to shed that excess weight. Similarly, the way to optimum ROI is through due diligence, awareness, education & learning, recognizing opportunities, timing, and avoiding missteps. Among the greatest missteps, in my opinion, is inferior or poor sources for your information. By example, a weekly email I receive for the last few months goes to the spam box automatically by the email’s spam filters and most I have spoken with confirm that this same weekly email is also being auto directed to their spam box. That in itself says a lot. Another weekly email I receive is filled with what has happened such as Canopy’s deal with Constellation and their current planned acquisition of Acreage Holdings – but in reading that email, there is a reference to the timing of the events coinciding with unrelated calendar events of the author – self-promotion under the guise of sharing news.

For those of you that live in Ontario Canada, the provincial government is introducing long overdue legislation. Right now, anyone can refer to themselves as a Financial Planner or a Financial Advisor … anyone! That is going to change and only those that have undertaken education and experience under an authorized umbrella group will be able to do so. It is believed other jurisdictions will follow. I am sure there are many with a diploma, a CFA, a degree, or an MBA that can work magic analyzing financial statements, but such individuals are not CPAs or CFPs. A person with a B.Comm, CFA, or an MBA but lacks a Financial Planner (from an approved body) or CPA accreditation may find themselves, under this legislation, as not considered a true Financial Planner that puts you first. They may be seen to be giving investment advice because they are paid by companies to promote the company as an investment opportunity and in some cases they are also paid by their members/followers. They may find that they cannot hide behind some disclaimer that despite targeted messaging aimed at investors that their messaging is really not investment advice to act on. Or one can accept their disclaimer as true and in that case why are people paying for investment advice if one believes none is being offered?
