As you know, I try to never give air to the hucksters but you may have stumbled across such sites while searching on the effectiveness of a particular weight loss supplement that you were researching. The reviews tend to be positive and promising which feeds your confirmation bias and at the conclusion the review suggests a weight loss supplement that is even more effective and provides a link to that diet supplement’s website – which was the true intent of the bogus review all along – Monty Hall Problem being played out using manipulation to get you to move off of your position and on to that of the manipulator. Some malign characters use sites we have come to trust, such as Amazon to post their fake reviews of diet pills.

In the US, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has begun cracking down on fake review sources plaquing the diet supplement industry. Some of you may have seen the recent April 2019 Dr. Oz episode that highlighted these scam review sites that prey on the average person. To understand weight loss, simply watch this short video. How many times have you clicked on articles with headlines predicting how CBD or beverages will soon “explode” from an investment perspective or will appear on shelves everywhere? How many times was there maybe one or two sentences about the title followed by some information on the largest companies in the space so as to lend credibility … and then the true purpose of the article … paid promotion about a small company that is hoping to be successful once it receives its license and/or various other approvals and milestones?
