Government of Canada Releases Certainty on the Legalization of Edibles, Topicals and Extracts

After much waiting and anticipation, on June 14, 2019,
the Government of Canada
finally released the details relating to the legalization of cannabis edibles, topicals and extracts (collectively the “New Products”).
The fact that the New Products are going to become legal is not in and of itself noteworthy. When the Cannabis Act was finalized last year a provision was inserted which provided that the New Products
must become legal within one year
of the Cannabis Act coming into force. The only questions outstanding were (a) would it happen prior to October 17, 2019 and (b) what would the rules around these products look like.
We now have the answer to both those questions.
