MedReleaf was the first to sell orally ingestible capsules that contain cannabis oil. It presents a simple way to ingest. This is big for our aging population, and for current seniors, who have a harder time accepting cannabis as medicine, having lived through the criminalization and prohibition years their entire lives. It also is helpful in convincing doctors, who may have had hesitations in prescribing cannabis use as a treatment option. As a November 8, 2016 press release on the launch of capsules for MedReleaf states:

“Doctors who currently prescribe marijuana or who may be considering prescribing it will now be able to prescribe using a delivery method that is accurate and does not involve the heating of the plant material. As well, some health care professionals may be more comfortable administering capsules to their patients, rather than assisting patients with vaporizing or smoking.”

The introduction of capsule form as a method of consuming cannabis can also help researchers, as the more accurate dose provided by the capsule can be helpful in figuring out levels that are required to treat certain conditions, ailments, diseases and illnesses.
