people who don’t want to smoke. Overall the smoking rate among adults is down from 20.6% in 2009 to 16.8% in 2014. Edibles provide a discrete, smoke-free experience. And since they can command higher prices, edibles often account for 25 to 60% of a dispensary’s profits.

Interestingly, looking at Maryland in the United States as an example, acknowledge that edibles are heading to the state, as more users, especially seniors, prefer not to smoke or vape cannabis. Joy Strand, the executive director of the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission, expects dispensaries to stock shelves with edibles although details are still being ironed out. Elderly patients or even recreational users, are using cannabis to manage issues such as pain, Alzheimer’s, and end-of-life anxiety, replacing traditional medications.
