Many people may not know that the cannabis industry in Canada started in 2001 with three options: grow your own, designate an individual to grow it for you, or buy from the government’s sole source producer. This was the MMAR (Marijuana Medical Access Regulations) and the sole provider was Prairie Plant Systems (now CanniMed Ltd). It was very difficult to get a license as the vast majority of doctors refused to sign the necessary complex paperwork.
