So to me that question asked so often is an easy question and in fact every month I give the easy answer: Service over Self-Interest. It is hard for others to be critical when they are taking payments from companies to be promotional. How can they be positive about company “C” when they are taking payments from companies “A”, “B”, and “D”?

When a paid promotor is hard on a company there could remain that potential aura of doubt and cynicism – are they hard on a company because that company did not cut them a cheque to become a client?

One of our founding mottos that has stuck and often said to me when I meet people is “connecting the dots so you don’t have to”. We do not use emails to simply compile a list of headlines from the week and send that out in mass for the sole purpose of adding the number of followers as some sort of evidence of industry recognition. We are not focussed on creating events that at this point are beyond the saturation point and add little value – conference fatigue set in during 2017 with more added in 2018. Those with those strategies are trying to find their niche and I applaud them and I wish them only success and if they are successful well it would be truly an honour to one day work with them.

As you know, I give space in this magazine for entrepreneurs. Patrick Moher of Ethical Image being an excellent example and both he and his company truly bring value to all facets of this industry. Michelle Leroux’s White Rabbit Events is yet another. Articles this month include a white paper from Hill Street Brewery and Q&A’s from StarSeed and Brock Street Brewing/Province Brands.

So to answer the question … when you have the top content providers (best of the best in my opinion – we have had one of our original core writers hired away by a large LP for their IR for example) – all with a shared philosophy of service over self-interest, the rest seems to take care of itself. We tell you to always invest in the team. You do that each month right here.

Just what were some of those industry leading strategies and predictions:
