“A bird never learns to fly when it is locked in a cage”

Jays game, game number nine of 162. Game number nine!!! This past Christmas, cannabis stocks tanking for a good part of three months since legalization, it was the talk. Made for a lean Christmas that’s for sure. In the midst of stuffing our faces and trying to reassure my brothers that “things will bounce back” for like the hundredth time, my dad chimes in … “how’s the magazine going now?”. Ahhhhhhh what dad? I couldn’t believe my ears.

My how times have changed. In most of my daily life I forget that we’ve entered a new age of legalized cannabis here in Canada. But this, my dad now taking interest in my endeavor here, was an eye-opening reminder. He’s come to embrace and support me, unabashed, and happily. He doesn’t partake in the wonders of cannabis, but he’s supportive and open about it now. He’s a senior, and proud of it, with his $1 McDonald’s senior’s discount coffee in hand and all, talking to me about cannabis and this fine magazine. And I suspect there are many many many more coming out of the woodwork like my dad. And many more with a far more open mindset to trying it (my dad not yet included and probably never will be).

The support for legalization among various age groups has increased significantly over the years. This chart shows that for the elderly, as an example, support has risen from about 25% in 2004 to 40% in 2014, up about 63% in that time period. I imagine this has gone up from even these levels in 2019.
