Great – thank you for that. I see that you (in this case - HydRx) has a Dealer’s License in addition to a cultivation license. How do you plan to utilize these licenses as the Health Canada site can be a bit confusing when an LP has multiple licenses. For our readers, this link is to the recent news release with respect to the sales license recently awarded for the sale of dry cannabis.
Readers, the process involved in being awarded a license is onerous and as you know most applicants are denied. One of the founding or guiding principles of The Cannabis Act is to “provide access to a quality-controlled supply of cannabis”. The black market, regardless of urban legend, cannot compete on quality nor can it assure quality. Quality literally means produced to a standard that is consistent, reliable, safe. In short, quality means “fit for use” based on meeting established standards.
So I wanted to take this moment to congratulate you and your team on this milestone accomplishment. So back to the question … how do you plan to utilize the licenses?
License names and labels have changed over the past few months as you have mentioned and we expect the regulations will continue to evolve . Scientus Pharma was one of the first companies in the country to attain licensing approvals to undertake R&D and let’s call it advanced processing of cannabinoids and other controlled substances. This gave Scientus Pharma a head start to develop innovative products before others. As a result Scientus Pharma has a wide range of products already in development, that include simple oils and softgel capsules to more advanced formulations of capsules, sublingual tablets and buccal sprays. We received our approvals to sell dried flower in December, but we are not currently selling any quantities of dried flower because our business model is all about non-smokable products. Most recently, in the fall of 2018, we received our approvals to manufacture oils and capsules on a commercial scale. We are awaiting our approval to sell those oils and capsules, and expect that imminently.
