Canada to become first G7 Country to end Cannabis Prohibition

Louis Kyron, CPA, CGA

On April 13th, the Government of Canada introduced legislation that, once implemented, will “legalize and strictly regulate Cannabis”. More than ever, the retail investor needs to ensure that their information sources are accurate, relevant, informative, and value added. This legislation represents a watershed unparalleled Ecoforming shockwave to “public policy not seen since the 1930’s”. Highlights:

Sales to be restricted to people age 18 and older, although provinces would have the jurisdiction to increase their own minimum age.

Amend the Criminal Code to modernize and simplify the transportation provisions, strengthen the criminal law responses to impaired driving, and facilitate the effective and efficient investigation and prosecution of drug- and alcohol-impaired driving.

Adults 18 and older would be allowed to publicly possess up to 30 grams of dried cannabis, or its equivalent in non-dried form.
