Brandon Cook: It was a great feeling fighting in front of all my friends and family back in 2011. I had never even thought I would be a professional boxer when I first started fighting back in 2006. I didn't start boxing until I was nineteen. I only had thirty-two amateur fights, as well. That first fight against Francis was one of my toughest fights to date. We were both pretty green compared to what we both are now. I dropped him with my first right hand, and tried to finish him, but he's a tough dude and the rest of the fight was a war. I learned a lot from that fight.
GM Ross: You were the Canadian champion for quite a while. What was your most memorable national championship fight?
Brandon Cook: By far the most memorable fight was when I won the title. The build up to the fight against Fitz Vanderpool was something else. I had never wanted something so bad in my life. He thought he was untouchable but I proved him wrong. I had a lot of respect for him, but when he wouldn't shake my hand after the fight, that pissed me right off. I guess he was just really upset I beat him in under a round. When I first turned professional my goal was to become Canadian champion. Beating a guy like Fitz made it worth every second.
