Eastern Canada- Québec City

Québec City

A beautiful city brimming with European flair
400 years of history, a friendly vibe and myriad attractions, make Québec City a stand-out travel destination throughout the year.
The city’ s oldest streets lie within Old Québec, the only walled city north of Mexico and a UNESCO World Heritage treasure. Best explored on foot, either atop the fortified walls or along its charming cobblestone streets. Sights include the grandiose Chateau Frontenac, which has overlooked the St Lawrence River for over a century, Dufferin Terrace for magnificent views, the historical gem of Place Royale, where the city was founded, Basilica Cathedral Notre-Dame de Québec and Notre-Damedes-Victoires, one of the oldest stone churches in North America.
The French influence is evident in the scenic Quartier Petit-Champlain, whose narrow streets house artisan boutiques and restaurants. Rue Saint- Jean is another must-see, with a string of shops, eateries, churches and historic buildings all creating a unique and eclectic ambience.
Overlooking the St Lawrence River, La Citadelle is the largest military fortification in North America. It was started by the French in 1750, but much of what can be seen today was built by the British between 1820- 1850. Daily military spectacles are staged during the summer months. Also within Old Québec is Parliament Hill, an architectural treasure where Québec’ s National Assembly convenes, the giant urban park known as Plains of Abraham, and la Grande-Allee where a bevy of restaurants, patios and entertainment venues attract locals and visitors alike.
If time allows, museums include the Musee de la Civilisation and Musee National des Beaux-arts due Québec or, at the Observatoire de la Capitale there are bird’ s eye views of the St Lawrence River and beyond. Ile d’ Orléans, just 15 minutes from downtown, is well worth a visit and situated just across from the breathtaking Montmorency Falls. Consider a trip to the Beaupré Coast for its picturesque landscapes.
