Unmissable Lake Louise & Moraine Lake Experiences
Western Canada- Lake Louise & Moraine Lake

Lake Louise & Moraine Lake

Stunning showstoppers living up to the hype
Lake Louise’ s sparkling emerald-green water, soaring mountain backdrop, glistening glacier and palatial hotel are totally picture-perfect, whatever the season. The best way to immerse yourself in the spectacular landscape is to step out on a hike and Lake Louise has year-round trails for all ability levels, from an easy short stroll to a rigorous mountaintop trek. Alternatively, hire a bike and pedal along the lake, or climb as many hills as your legs can manage and cruise amongst towering peaks. When snow covers the trails and roads you can try fat biking, a great fun option. During winter, activities include ice skating on the frozen lake, cross-country skiing, sleigh rides, dog sledding and more. A summertime must-do is to hire a canoe from the Lake Louise boathouse and paddle towards the Victoria Glacier. Get bird’ s eye views from aboard the Lake Louise Gondola which climbs up the side of Whitehorn Mountain to a dizzying viewpoint above the valley floor. Alternatively, hike the scenic 2.2 mile trail to the historic Lake Agnes tea house, for a reward of tea and scones as well as pretty special alpine views. The hamlet of Lake Louise itself has a small selection of shops and some incredible restaurants, many of which practise a farm-to-table ethos. South of Lake Louise and cradled by the Valley of the Ten Peaks is Moraine Lake, whose brilliant waters are the most amazing colour, a vivid shade of turquoise that changes in intensity through the summer as the glaciers melt. Nothing beats just sitting lakeside and soaking up views of the surrounding mountains, waterfalls and rock piles, a scene so stunning it almost seems unreal. Another visual stunner is Bow Lake which can be accessed from the Icefields Parkway. A lakeshore trail is a wonderful spot to stretch your legs and offers numerous stopping points to take in the changing vistas.

Getting there: Lake Louise is about 45 minutes drive from Banff or 2 hours from Calgary. Moraine Lake is open June to October. Both lakes can be accessed by a shuttle, public transit or guided tour- pre-booking is recommended.
Best time to go: Lake Louise is usually frozen from mid- November creating a magical wonderland and doesn’ t completely thaw until early June. From late June-early September the lake’ s famous intense turquoise colour emerges, while in autumn the trees produce radiantly coloured leaves. Moraine Lake is closed from November to May.
