“ Nevertheless, the need to test and evaluate the EDAM online learning package more extensively is required. This will involve investigating where the EDAM online learning package can be most effectively situated within midwifery programs.”
But Jefford is confident her package, once proven effective, will be integrated into midwifery programs. She says the Australian College of Midwives will soon work EDAM into midwifery education programs and hopes the tool will become embedded in university midwifery curriculums. A discussion package will also be released detailing how EDAM can complement ACM and International Confederation of Midwives guidelines.
Jefford also says the EDAM tool will go beyond midwifery students, and be applicable for professional development in both the Australian and international midwifery workforce.
“ It is up to universities to take this on board,” Jefford says.“ It is up to us as educators to ensure students of midwifery are fully equipped to work in the workforce, meet the AMC and Nurse and Midwifery Board of Australia guidelines, and [ make ] the quality and health and safety of women and babies paramount.” n
