UTS heads youth brigade
Australia places more
universities than any other
country in rankings of
institutions under 50 years old.

TS led seven other young local
institutions in the latest ranking of
the top 50 universities worldwide
less than 50 years old, giving Australia the
most places of any country in the index.
In the list, compiled by rankings agency
QS and spearheaded by Asian universities,
UTS was the top local institution, jumping
seven spots from last year’s 21 to sit at 14
in 2015. Close behind was the University
of Wollongong at 17, with QUT (20), RMIT
(21), Curtin University (23) and the University
of South Australia (25) following. Deakin
University came in at 36 and Queensland’s
Griffith University (37) was the eighth and final
Australian institution to make the cut. The UK
and Spain each contributed five institutions.

elbourne has outshone Sydney
and Canberra has held its place
above Brisbane in the latest world
ranking of best student cities released by
university rankings agency QS.
Despite recent tragic events in Paris, the
French capital retained the top spot in the

index, ahead of Melbourne, which also
hung onto its second overall position from
last year.
Sydney also retained its position, fourth,
while last year’s third-place runner, London,
traded places with Tokyo, sliding to fifth.
Singapore, Montreal, Hong Kong, Berlin and
Seoul filled out the top 10.
Canberra (17) not only outranked
Brisbane (18) in the poll, but jumped four
places, as the pair leapfrogged New York to
enter the top 20.
