The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong. It offers programmes at various levels including Doctorate, Master’ s, and Bachelor’ s degrees. It has a full-time academic staff strength of around 1,250. The total consolidated expenditure budget of the University is about HK $ 5 billion per year.
DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED SOCIAL SCIENCES
The Department of Applied Social Sciences offers taught programmes, at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels, in the fields of Social Work, Social Policy and Administration, Counselling, and Applied Psychology, as well as research degrees at MPhil and PhD levels. The Department has seven thriving research cum practice units: Centre for Social Policy Studies, Centre for Third Sector Studies, China Research and Development Network, Manulife Centre for Children with Specific Learning Disabilities, Network for Health and Social Welfare, Professional Practice and Assessment Centre and Yan Oi Tong Au Suet Ming Child Development Centre for Giftedness. ( 1) Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Social Policy and Administration( two posts)
The appointees will be required to( a) teach subjects in the broad discipline of Social Policy and Administration; preference will be given to those with expertise in at least one of the following areas: social welfare, housing, education, health, ageing and social policy, social enterprises, social economics and non-profit sector financial management;( b) provide academic leadership in research and other scholarly activities;( c) contribute to the development and enhancement of teaching and learning;( d) provide leadership in planning, management and curriculum development in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Social Policy and Administration; and( e) carry out academic and administrative duties as required.
For the post of Professor / Associate Professor, applicants should have( a) a PhD degree in Social Policy and Administration and a solid academic background in at least one of the areas specified above;( b) proven track records in teaching and research;( c) excellent records in competitive external research grants;( d) substantial experience in academic programme planning, management and curriculum development; and( e) excellent local and international connections in research and professional capacities.
Candidates with less experience will be considered for appointment at the level of Associate Professor / Assistant Professor and the job duty requirements and expectation would be in line with the appointed grade.
( 2) Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Applied Psychology( two posts)
The appointees will be required to( a) teach subjects relating to Applied Psychology;( b) conduct research that leads to publications in refereed journals and award of research grants;( c) provide academic leadership in teaching and related clinical practices / services;( d) contribute to programme planning, management and curriculum development; and( e) carry out academic and administrative duties as required.
Applicants should have( a) a PhD degree and a solid academic background preferably in Applied Psychology, Educational Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Statistics / Research methods;( b) professional qualifications in practising Psychology in Hong Kong or its equivalence;( c) substantial experience in academic programme planning and curriculum development;( d) an established track record in research scholarship, including refereed publications, competitive external grants and postgraduate supervisions;( e) demonstrated academic management and leadership capabilities; and( f) good connections with the international academic community and relevant local, regional and international professional organizations.
Candidates with less experience will be considered for appointment at the level of Assistant Professor and the job duty requirements and expectation would be in line with the appointed grade.
( 3) Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Social Work( three posts)
The appointees will be required to( a) teach subjects in the field of Social Work;( b) conduct research that leads to publications in refereed journals and award of research grants;( c) provide academic leadership in teaching and learning of social work;( d) contribute to programme planning, management and curriculum development; and( e) carry out academic and administrative duties such as fieldwork coordination as required.
For the post of Associate Professor, applicants should( a) have a PhD degree in a relevant discipline and a solid academic background in Generic Social Work Practice, Social Work and Gerontology, Family Therapy and Practice, and Research Methodology;( b) be a Registered Social Worker;( c) have substantial experience in academic programme planning and curriculum development;( d) have an established track record in research and scholarship, including refereed publications, competitive external grants and postgraduate degree supervisions;( e) have demonstrated academic leadership and capabilities;( f) have good connections with the international academic community; and( g) have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua being an advantage.
For the post of Assistant Professor, applicants should( a) have a PhD degree in a relevant discipline plus several years post-qualification of teaching / research / practical experience;( b) be a Registered Social Worker;( c) have a high level of subject knowledge, skills of and competence in the academic / professional discipline concerned;( d) have a successful professional and academic track record in teaching subjects relating to the Social Work discipline;( e) have already developed a good network in the Social Work or related Social Sciences disciplines; and( f) have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua being an advantage.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment for Assistant Professor will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. An appropriate term will be provided for appointment at Associate Professor and Professor levels.
