Group of unis makes list of organisations named Employers of Choice for gender equality.

Eleven Australian universities were amongst just 76 organisations included in the national Workplace Gender Equality Agency’ s( WGEA) inaugural Employer of Choice for Gender Equity list.
The citations, which require organisations to submit evidence proving they meet a range of rigorous requirements relating to workforce gender equity, are aimed at addressing the structural and cultural barriers that prevent both women and men from participating equally at all professional levels.
WGEA director Helen Conway says the recently announced citations, previously awarded under the title Employer of Choice
for Women, had been overhauled and criteria made more stringent this year with the aim of strengthening their value. As a result, the previous round of 125 citations – awarded in 2012 – was reduced to just 76 in 2014. However, Conway says many previously participating organisations that had not applied for the new citations had indicated an intention to make submissions in 2015.
