New MBA degree to teach skills for AUKUS alliance

Teaching is under way in a new MBA degree based on the AUKUS alliance that is being offered jointly by three universities , one from each of the three AUKUS countries ,

The Global Executive MBA in Defence and Space is a partnership between the University of South Australia ( UniSA ), Carnegie Mellon University ( CMU ) in the US , and Exeter University in Britain .
It is intended to train executives , managers , defence force members and public servants in skill areas that will be in demand as the AUKUS alliance matures .
These include cyber security , space systems , geopolitics and defence procurement , as well as innovation and leadership capabilities .

“ The complexities associated with the multi-decade projects require a range of skills and capabilities , ranging from technical skills through to project management and leadership capabilities ,” she said .
The 18-month course includes three intensive face-to-face teaching blocks , and the first one began at UniSA in Adelaide in September . The other two will be with CMU in Washington DC and with Exeter in London .

help him meet the challenges of the political and moral debate in the defence sector , such as artificial intelligence , weaponisation of space and ethical use of autonomous systems .
“ We must navigate the delicate balance between innovation , effectiveness and conscience ,” he said . “ I see the Global Executive MBA program as a way of helping me overcome some of these personal hurdles .” ■
