Don’t hold back with hashtags, but do define a few and stick to them. Encourage conversation around your photos. Comment on others’ photos of your camp. Post at least 3-4 pictures per week to start.

ow many times have you heard the words, “Ready? Set … GO!,” from a counselor who is coaxing a nervous camper? There is something about those words that raises the level of anticipation and even gets your heart beating a little faster.
At Kamp Kohut, we’re now saying these words to ourselves as we delve deeper into the ever-changing world of social media. Camps offer an incredibly visual atmosphere filled with unique characters and beautiful natural surroundings. With so much imagery ready to share, we decided to explore Pinterest and Instagram. If you’re just venturing into these worlds, too, here are some of the insights and best practices we’ve uncovered so far.

While Pinterest is great for organiz@camptowanda ing and inspiring, Instagram is a @woodwardcamp flowing stream of visual activity. (and @woodwardwest) Instagram, unlike Pinterest, is only @camp_cho_yeh accessible from a mobile device. @campskyline Take a picture with your phone and share it immediately. Not so confident in your photography skills? The app comes with a variety of effects and filters to enhance the image (we like the blur tool with the Hudson filter). One of the most helpful resources we discovered when we first started was the “Instagram for Business” help documentation. If you’re setting up a new account that will be used only for camp, it’s a very straightforward process. However, if you already have a personal Instagram account on your mobile device, you’ll want to learn how to switch between your personal feed and your camp’s. It’s also a good idea to share the images on your camp’s Facebook page or Twitter account to increase visibility. We also look forward to using Instagram as another platform to run promotions. We’ve brainstormed ideas that encourage campers, staff, and families to share their photos. It could be their favorite opening day photo, a blast from the past, or color war shots. Fun photos and great memories generate a high level of engagement, which equals a lot of free marketing. The goal is to have a constant stream of the scenery and people that make up your camp. The possibilities are endless, and with a few minutes of brainstorming, you’ll come up with all kinds of ideas. Have fun wit ] ??Y\]Y?
