A message from our Communications & Public Affairs Officer
Since the provincial election in June , we have been busy meeting with provincial decision-makers to discuss issues affecting our industry . From these conversations , the office has a clearer understanding of the path forward to a solution on issues like septic flow rates that we hope can come to a conclusion in the near future .
Association of Municipalities Ontario ( AMO ) Conference
At the municipal level , we worked with campgrounds in the Township of Rideau In August , CIO joined the Tourism Industry Association Ontario ( TIAO ) delegation in Ottawa for the AMO Conference . We spent 3 days meeting with Ministers across all provincial ministries to discuss the issues our industry faces . We received a positive response from the Ministry of Energy regarding EV Chargers and strong support from Green Party Leader , Mike Schreiner .
We were pleased to meet the new Minister of Tourism , Culture and Sport , Neil Lumsden and we thanked him for his very generous $ 20,000 grant for our upcoming convention in November . We want to thank the TIAO team for all their hard work in organizing this event !
Township of Rideau Lakes
For several months , we have been working with our members in the Township of Rideau Lakes to fight an interim control by-law . In late August , we spoke at an inperson special council meeting in the Township . We thank all the campground owners , campers and supporters who took time out of their busy schedules to attend and share important information on our industry . Next steps include awaiting the council ’ s feedback and decisions on this issue .
Municipal Elections
As you know , this fall is the municipal elections . The situation in Rideau Lakes is not unique to our industry . We are seeing an ongoing trend of municipal issues arising in many parts of this province . Thus , I cannot stress enough the importance of your local elections . I encourage you to speak with local candidates to find out who are supporters of our industry . Those are the individuals we want in places in power to ensure the survival of our industry . In the coming months , we will be sending out more information regarding the Municipal Elections .
If you have any questions regarding municipal politics , please reach out to the office . I look forward to seeing you all at our annual convention in November !
