Camping In Ontario Update Newsletter June 2019 June 2013

CAMPING IN ONTARIO’S NEWSLETTER UPDATE It’s official! Spring is here and the camping season has arrived. Gotta love those groundhogs — they are never wrong. Now we have to educate the groundhogs and let them know what weather most of our campers like — if only they could control it. I want to thank everyone that took the time to go to the regional meetings. It was wonderful to see everyone, catch up on issues, meet new members and talk with everyone. With the great selection of suppliers at the meetings I was able to do a great deal of my purchases to be ready for the camping season. The support from our suppliers was simply spectacular. The meetings were informative and relevant for forward planning. Based on survey feedback, I am sure that most attendees brought something useful back with them. Thank you to Alexandra and her wonderful staff for putting together an excellent format and a special thank you to Robert Trask for joining me at all the meetings and keeping things on track. Your Board continues to work diligently on your behalf. The convention committee has set the wheels in motion for a spectacular fall convention. The draft agenda is available online and in your renewal packages — you won’t want to miss it. Register early to ensure you have a room available. We are actively working on the Bylaws to get us in compliance with the new government changes. If all goes as expected, we will have the changes ready for you at the AGM. Camping In Ontario attended a Lobby Day in Ottawa. We joined the RVDA in lobbying for changes to Employment Insurance with regards to seasonal employees. It was not well received and we were not able to make progress on this front. The Trent-Severn Waterway was on our radar and we found a great deal of support in Ottawa. On behalf of Camping In Ontario, I want to thank Stephanie Doomernik, Director for Region 11 for her dedication to Camping In Ontario. Stephanie has decided to step down and we wish her well. At the Region 11 regional meeting, Walter Geisser of Bayview Lodge was elected to step in after the AGM in November. Walter has agreed to sit on the board starting immediately. Welcome and congratulations to Walter. June 2013 Camping In Ontario would like to recognize our new National association and congratulate Robert Trask for being acclaimed Chairman of the new organization, CCRVC (Canadian Camping and RV Council). Robert has represented Camping In Ontario tirelessly for many years and I cannot think of a better choice to guide the CCRVC during this critical formative stage. I look forward to working with Robert as they move the organization forward. Lastly, please consider monitoring your individual Municipal politics. Keep your Camping In Ontario Staff and your Board members informed of any initiatives that you hear being brought forward. The municipalities are talking more than ever and the more lead time we have, the better we can prepare for the future. Have a wonderful season and please feel free to contact me.
