WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP PUERTO RICO 1974
FAMOUS NAMES
For the first time the mass media voted for the best five players of the tournament. Guard John
Lucas was elected as MVP, and he was joined in the ideal quintet by Alexander Salnikov, Dragan
Kikanovic, Alexander Belov and Wayne Brabender. Brabender also finished as top scorer with an
average of 20.8 points per game.
The players were not the only names to shine in the closing ceremony. After forty years at the
helm of FIBA William Jones was retiring and handing over his seat to the Yugoslav Borislav
Stankovic.
