WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BRAZIL 1954
The scandal created by this decision enabled FIBA to clarify some of their rules in their next
meeting in Melbourne before the 1956 Olympic Games. Besides the three-second lane regulation,
FIBA decided that after any violation of the rules the ball should be returned from the side line
and only from the base line after a valid basket. This was a logical step but unfortunately it was
not passed in time for the Rio world championship which caused the confusion. Yugoslavia, the
off-court protagonists of the first two editions did not have to wait long for their revenge.
