Campbell Advancement Via Individual Determination( AVID)
TThis is a specialized four-year program established in 2017 that offers any rising 9th grade Campbell high school student whose achievement is currently in the academic middle( B and C range), aspires to be the first in their family to attend college or is a part of a group who is traditionally underrepresented in higher education, and is willing to work hard an opportunity to be accepted into a unique curriculum to make their college dreams a reality. AVID students are encouraged and challenged to complete Honors and Advanced Placement courses while being supported through an AVID Elective course. The AVID Elective is a yearlong course that provides organizational and study skills, critical thinking development, academic help from peers and college tutors, and lessons on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading along with other pertinent life skills. Through the four years in AVID, students are exposed to various careers and colleges, participate in enrichment and motivational activities, prepare for college entrance exams, and receive guidance in applying for college and scholarships. Students are encouraged to apply for and participate in internships during the summer leading up to their senior year. Students interested in enrolling in the AVID elective participate in an interview process to ensure that they are a good fit for AVID’ s collaborative and goal-oriented learning environment.
