HOW TO PREPARE- GETTING STARTED
Why Communications Coordinator: I ran for communications coordinator because I had served as the secretary of my board the year prior. Although CoCo has some additional responsibilities, including website management, I felt that the skills I had learned as secretary applied most to this NJCL office. I also attended several of the monthly GroupMe meetings that the current NJCL officers host to learn more about the position. Coming up with ideas: I spent a long time just brainstorming ideas for my campaign. It might seem intimidating at first, but it was helpful just to put all my preliminary thoughts together on a document. I pitched my campaign ideas to my family members to get their advice, and on the flight to convention, I practiced my speeches and " elevator pitch " with people from my state. Find a single central theme that can incorporate all elements of your ideas( ex. acronyms, metaphors, motto, etc.). Using one guiding principle makes pitching your campaign a lot easier and more digestible for voters.
