PRESIDENT
Reesey Lai
What are you main officer duties? I have the incredible opportunity to represent the 45,000 + passionate student members that comprise the National Junior Classical League. I preside over all meetings with the Executive Board( the officers), Board of Directors( the officers + our mentors that make up the Executive Committee), and JCL( the General Assemblies). I am in charge of helping to plan NJCL Convention and get to pick the theme for the year. Mine is“ Concordia parvae res crescunt” which means“ in harmony small things grow” from Sallust and is the main driving force for my presidency and the JCL.
HOW TO PREPARE- GETTING STARTED
Why President: I have previous experience on the board and I could use that knowledge to mentor and guide my fellow officers. I have experience making guides for convention events and encouraging attendance on the local and state scale that I could continue as President. I knew I wanted to do a little bit of all the roles with things like Epistulae and fundraising, so President felt like a good fit. I am comfortable as a leader and thought I would run a board well. Coming up with ideas: I started by thinking about any ideas I wanted to contribute that haven’ t been done before like Epistulae since I was currently running it on the local scale. Then I thought about duties that the NJCL President has and what I wanted to contribute for each part of the role. I also looked at what past NJCL Presidents had done and thought about if I wanted to revive or continue those projects.
