How to Run

You ’ ve decided to run for office ( or you really should !) but before you get to the exciting part this summer here ’ s what you need to do :

1 . Be Eligible

As you would have probably expected , there are some requirements you have to meet before you can run but I can ’ t list them any better than Article V , Section II of the NJCL Constitution .
Nominees and candidates for office shall meet the following qualifications and , if elected or appointed , maintain these qualifications throughout their term of office : A . shall have the permission of their custodial parent or legal guardian , local sponsor , and State Chair ( s ), as well as any other requirements defined by their State . B . shall be from a State JCL that did not hold the position in the previous year . C . shall have attended at least one previous NJCL convention . D . shall attend middle or high school ( or equivalent ) for the duration of the term . E . shall be enrolled in a classical / ancient studies , Greek , or Latin class at least half of the year during which the student ’ s office is held , or have completed all classical / ancient studies , Greek , or Latin classes offered at the student ’ s school . F . shall be the only candidate for any office from that student ’ s State ( the student belongs to the State of their local chapter , regardless of residence ). G . shall be a member of a chapter and a State in good standing .

2 . Pick an Office

There are seven offices to choose from : President , 1st Vice President , 2nd Vice President , Communications Coordinator , Parliamentarian , Historian , and Editor . You can check out the Advice from the NJCL Officers and Article III of the NJCL Bylaws to learn about what each office entails .
