Advice from the

Main Duties

As Second Vice President , you are , in summary , responsible for spearheading service and spirit ! It is a busy role , but it is , at the same time , incredibly rewarding .
At Convention , you decide on spirit and dance themes , which you will include in your Spirit and Service Packet . Here , it ’ s important to be creative and communicate each idea to your mentor and fellow board members . Additionally , one of your most important duties is planning the National Service Project ! It is really important to choose an activity that is equitable to all states . It is also nice if your project is able to get as many JCLers involved as you can . You also get to organize Coin Drive , which is a fun , spirited competition amongst the NJCL board members to raise money for a chosen nonprofit organization .
As 2VP , your duties are not reserved to Convention and are actually spread across the entire year . For instance , the 2VP is in charge of the Club of the Month contest--a publicity contest dedicated to highlighting the service projects and activities of JCL chapters nationwide .
Your job is to create an engaging theme , designing the COTM packet and guidelines , brainstorming monthly activities and service projects , reading and judging all monthly submissions , and crafting posts for the NJCL Instagram to announce the winners .
Additionally , the 2VP works closely with the 1VP to plan National Classics Week and Classicalia . This includes crafting creative themes , designing publicity materials and packets , coming up with inclusive service project and activity ideas , reaching out to potential speakers , and scheduling events .

How to Prepare

As the second VP , it is important to have an open mind , passion for service , experience with planning events , and solid grasp on graphic design software like Canva since you will be designing so many packets , publicity materials , and social media posts :)
As you run for office , it is important to brainstorm a strong platform . Think about the experience that you have in your local JCL . What unique skills do you bring to the role ? Perhaps think of a catching acronym or phrase that encourages others to believe in your vision . Make sure your goals are realistic and inclusive .
