The Root Cause
The word dichotomy focuses on splitting of a whole into exactly two non-overlapping parts which may be of two types: The hopes in our life belong to two simply separable containments viz. „ to learn ‟ and „ to survive ‟ although we try hard to make these partitions jointly exhaustive we often find the results confusing.
An Alternate Version Dichotomy as a noun is also considered as repeated branching into two equal parts so are our confusions which fork new offspring at a daily basis taking the very concept of complexity above our likings.
The origin and its sin The term comes from the Greek dichotomia and has a great level of outreach in many fields whether in set theory, statistics, psychiatry, theology, philosophy, sociology, astronomy, economics, and botany and in computer science it pokes us everywhere In computer programming the term dichotomy is used to denote fundamental dualities in a language ' s design. For instance, C ++ has a dichotomy in its memory model( heap versus stack), whereas Java has a dichotomy in its type system( references versus primitive data types).
A philosophy:-
Dichotomy is the belief that humans consist of a soul and a body. According to some article I read a few days ago there are many dichotomies in life. For example: Day and night, rough and smooth, black and white etc. Dichotomy seems to be one of the major defining attributes of the universe. The Universe itself is created by one: Matter vs. Anti-matter. Something I have heard re-iterated again and again is the dichotomy between faith and logic. Einstein said:“ Science without religion is lame, Religion without science is blind”. If we accept Einstein ‟ s point of view not only are faith and logic together a dichotomy, but also complementary. This idea of complementary opposites is interesting to me and comforting in a universe that is normally so random and confusing. A recent claim is that faith can even be reduced by thinking about logic. When I find myself thinking analytically about serious truths for too long I get depressed and reserved. I stagnate, my mind freezes up and I become unproductive. When I accept everything at face value and disregard how logical my actions and thoughts are, I find myself off track on my goals, engaged in frivolous spending, self centered, taken advantage of & equally unproductive. On one side I become delusional that I will actually understand life. On the other I become delusional that I have understood it.
The Conclusive puzzle
Faith and logic are a dichotomy. They are polar opposites. One is fact, one is fiction. They are opposites, yet they are necessary to our minds. When understood, they are a tool. Yet, too much of either one is negative. They are complimentary. Somewhere in between is ideal – to me. Like all things in life – balance is the key.
