INDUSTRY PEOPLE BBA Pumps onsite at Kaikoura. reflects what the people in the industry are thinking: that the failure at local level needs greater attention at national level. Prime Pump is in a good position to contribute to the discourse around infrastructure woes. Over the period of 17-20th September 2019, the company attended the Water New Zealand Conference in Hamilton, too. Like-minded individuals gathered to view the latest products available in that sector but also to discuss regulatory reform in the three waters’ arena. With confidence in this area in need of restoration, Prime Pump are in a good position to instill faith back to their contractors, and they are at their best when working with difficult solutions and tricky jobs. Over the last two years, they have opened new branches in Christchurch and Wellington and have established sales representatives in Auckland, Tauranga and Dunedin. The headquarters is still in Greymouth; it’s a family business and that’s where the family are based. Aside from the obvious need for good quality pumps for every scenario, there’s been an upsurge in the need for products that can deliver to the client a sense of sustainability. In this sense, contractors and larger companies are looking at their bottom line, and wondering what can be done to streamline a job process. 84  CAM October 2019 “The whole world’s perception of purchasing is changing,’’ says Glenn. “People are now making choices about purchasing that come from the position of efficiency. It’s as though people want to become more efficient in their practices, around saving power, and making the equipment more efficient. It makes it far more attractive than just always looking at the purchase price. “People are realising that sustainability equals efficiency. We are realising that, in part, has driven the growth that occurred in the last two years or so.” Prime Pump doesn’t sell cheap ‘n’ easy fixes. Instead their business model is about supplying high-quality machinery, with guarantees to last the distance. Sure, there are products out there that can match a client’s budget. Increasingly, though, people are realising that the bigger picture is about longevity versus cost and that means that people need to do their research and think long-term. “There are lots of opportunities out there to buy products that are cheaper. But also when people really use it and experience it, that’s what really comes to the fore. It’s not until they are in a specific situation that they realise the need for machinery that won’t let them down, and we really try to guide them in that respect.” w w w. c a m m a g a z i n e . c o . n z
