sister company HireWays, are playing a key role in keeping
us all on the road.
With equipment deployed in multiple roading projects,
they are keen to see some major improvements on our
highways.

Hart, Marketing Manager at HireWays. “We are pretty
excited about this.”
It’s been a busy couple of years on New Zealand’s Roads
of National Significance, a programme that commenced
in 2009. The “gorge” is the infamous Manawatū Gorge, that forms
part of State Highway 3, and links the Manawatū to
Hawke’s Bay.
Over that period at least two of those RoNS have
undergone major work such as widening or re-routing,
and other lesser roads have needed major repair work. If you’ve ever travelled on this road, you’ll know it’s both
pretty and yet treacherous. It was closed last April by
NZTA due to repeat slips and a new plan was revealed this
March to re-route and replace the road altogether.
Travelling on New Zealand roads is still a thing. It’s how
we get around, and how we access the more remote parts
of this country. Roading in New Zealand has featured
prominently in recent debates about how best to transit
here, but ultimately, we’re a nation of road-travellers.
The Hart family, owners of NZAM Machinery Sales and
That plan is a $500M four-year project that will begin in
2020 and open a new route from Woodville to Ashurst,
effectively ceasing the need to use the old Saddle Road
when travelling from the North Island’s East Coast through
to Palmerston North.
