International short-term missions 55 individuals of all ages took part in five trips this year, as well as 17 people who served in Greece. mozambique In Spring 2016, a team went to our “adopted” village of Chinhangane to continue teaching and discipleship, and encourage our missionaries. france A group of young adults worked alongside our missionaries in a Muslim community serving and proclaiming the love of Jesus. Central Asia A small group spent two weeks working alongside our partners in the region, planting seeds among young adults. Spain This team encouraged our mis- sionary there by deepening rela- tionships through an English camp. Guyana Once again this year, a team worked with our missionaries in Guyana holding street crusades and introducing the love of Jesus to both young and old. Greece This year, after a preliminary trip by Lee Content, we sent two teams to the Greek island of Lesvos to minister to and serve the refugees making their way to western Eu- rope and beyond. Missions conference Our 2016 Missions Conference, Salvation Revealed, focused on reaching out to Muslims, espe- cially refugees, both here in Grand Rapids and around the world. The conference included two days at the Legacy 2016 conference at Sunshine Church where we were equipped to reach Muslim refu- gees, women, international stu- dents, and business associates, as well as how to disciple new Muslim converts, answering Jihad, and much more. We were also bless- ed in the plenary sessions to hear from Georges Houssney, Nabeel Qureshi and Abdu Murray, among others. Georges also spoke at Cal- vary@Calvin on Sunday, June 19. local efforts Thanksgiving offering open door project: leadership for a New generation Last year our Open Door Project fo- cused on equipping church leaders in two African nations as well as India to reach the next generation of global leaders, and to extend an opportunity for both theological education and mutual collabora- tion to urban Grand Rapids pas- tors. Through your generous dona- tions, we funded Bible training and skills training for students at the Mwanza Bible College in Tanzania; provided leadership training for Ni- gerian students through one of our partners; added to the facility and library at Kerala Baptist Bible Col- lege and Seminary in India; funded continued ministry and outreach at Trinity Church in Oxford England; and sustained the Urban Cohort training program at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. Just over $3,000 was collected for David’s House Ministries at our Thanksgiving Eve Service. Annual Christmas project Once again, our 2015 Christmas Project went to Urban Family Minis- tries’ Christmas Shoppe – the local portion of our Open Door Project. Your generosity filled the shelves of their Christmas Shoppe to over- flowing, and gave moms and dads of this tough Grand Rapids neigh- borhood some dignity as they were able to buy gifts for their kids at dis- counted prices. Your giving bless- ed these families abundantly. 17
