Meet Els Baekelandt, calligrapher
I was born in Belgium where I studied Applied Arts in the Luca School of Arts in
Ghent.
After my studies, I moved to Paris, France, where I worked in Claude Mediavilla’s
Design Studio from 1986 till 1999.
I’m an all-round artist, I create illustrations, botanical and other, logotypes,
layouts, diplomas, posters, book covers, business cards, postcards,
computer-assisted publications, etc.
I work for private inviduals, companies and publishers...
I’ve illustrated several books such as “Les Mots” by Vercors as well as unique or
limited edition artists’ books such as “Comme nuage et vent” by Lionel Ray.
Since 2013, I live in Extremadura, Spain.
I use a large variety of techniques: gouache, pigments, ink, watercolour, etching
techniques and monotypes.
My work has been exhibited worldwide and published in magazines and
newpapers in Europe and elsewhere: ‘Art & Métiers du Livre’, ‘Scriptores’,
‘Plumes’, ‘Kalligraphie-Zeitschrift’, ‘Création numérique’, ‘Ingham County
Community News’, ‘Bourgogne Magazine’, and ‘Estilográfica’.
