Chapter 12
“If My People Who Are Called by My Name”
At Ukarumpa, on the same Sunday morning as the day of the tragedy, a special church service was held.
While the Steinkrauses were in the Tifalmin church, the people at Ukarumpa gathered to hear Rev.
Herman Riffel, who had stayed on after the workshop for this special day. He shared the importance of
praying that God would bring healing to the people and country of New Guinea. The text from the Bible
was II Chronicles 7:14, “If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and
seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin
and heal their land.” (NIV) During the service, various missionaries led extensive times of prayer for the
many things that were happening in the country.
