Rayco Tabares, strategist of the “Puerto Calero Residence Club Black”

“Finishing eighth was good for us”

Rayco Tabares, the strategist for the “Puerto Calero Residence Club Black”, said that yesterday’s round “was very complicated” for them and emphasized that “we have had wind from all directions and the Committee has a difficult time preparing the race course”.

Tabares added that “when we got near the port the wind came from the north-northeast, with very strong and difficult gusts for sailing, above all for the strategists”.

The strategist for the “Puerto Calero Residence Club Black” assured that “we were unlucky in the first leg, because we got crossed with the Italian team and the truth is that affected us in the race.

From there and in the last lap it was good for us. We came back to take the 8th position, which is a good place to try to improve upon from now to the end.”

Rayco Tabares assessed the level in this world championship. “The level is very high. We are picking up the pace of the race. The crew has performed well, the boat as well and I think we have chances to finish higher in the standings.”

He trusts that the weather will change tomorrow and they they will be able to compete in more races. “I hope that we compete in four regattas tomorrow, that the wind favours us and that we try to climb in the standings.”
