to develop the ability to reason clearly, to distinguish
between good and bad arguments, to navigate through
a complicated maze of issues, to clarify puzzling
concepts, and to use intelligence and logic in situations
where there are fiercely opposing views and interests.
The Philosophy major requires a minimum of 36 credits,
including two survey courses, “Ancient Greek Philosophy”
and “Modern Philosophy,” and a course in logic. Additional courses applicable to the major include courses in
ethics and political philosophy, as well as advanced
courses like “Epistemology” and “Metaphysics.”
