Emma of My Sweet Dream Cakes
Hi! I’m Emma and my little cake business
is called My Sweet Dream Cakes in Perth,
Western Australia. I’m a mother of 3 and
work full time on my little cake business.
I’ve always been in awe of pretty cakes, and
had someone told me that one day I would
be making them myself I probably would
have laughed. I began making decorated
cakes like most do with making my
childrens birthday cakes. I’d never heard
of fondant and would blindly put together
something my little ones had requested
working for hours.
It wasn’t until my wedding that things
started to take off from there. My lovely
husband was too cheap to allow a decent
budget for our wedding cake (he actually
suggested a store bought cake with an
ornament on top eeek!), so I decided I
would try and make my own. Looking back
now I realise how lucky I was with that
cake, not a single hitch along the way, with
the fondant rolling onto the cake without a
single fold. Beginners luck!
We were all more than a bit surprised it turned out as it did and I was
encouraged to continue making cakes. That was nearly 5 years ago and here
I am now making wedding cakes and celebration cakes every week, a job that
I absolutely love. My husband is very proud that his cheapness paved the way
for my cake business.
My biggest passion is romantic vintage styled cakes. Lace, roses, pearls and
ruffles are all features I love to see on a wedding cake. Hand piping lace on a
Friday night is my definition of a great night in. Being a little part of a couples
big special day is very exciting, and I still fall in love with every reception room
I deliver to. I doubt the novelty will ever wear off.
