What advice can you give to
decorators wanting to improve their
flower-making skills?
I highly recommend a hands-on
workshop if you are wanting to improve
your flower-making skills. My best
learning experience occurred many
years ago when I invested in a private
workshop with a sugar flower artist I
admired. I learned a great foundation
in techniques, which then gave me the
confidence to try making new flowers
on my own and then also develop my
own style. When you are comfortable
using the tools and supplies and
understand how they all work, it opens
a whole new world in creating well-
crafted sugar flowers. Once you have
developed good technique, all the
online classes and books are also
much easier to follow, and with better
results. Also, lots of practice! I still
spend a lot of hours at my work bench
creating and working to improve my
own skills.
