Who inspires you ?
I ’ m so inspired by so many people / things . I get inspired by other decorators who push me to get better like Natalie Sideserf , Mike McCarey and Karen Portaleo . I get inspired by sculptors and artists like Forrest Rogers , Spiderzero and Glenn Arthur . Mostly I am constantly inspired by the world around me . Nature , fashion , jewellery and Pinterest ! Oh , how I love Pinterest .
What advice do you have to cakers wishing to expand their sculpting skills ?
If you truly want to learn how to be a better sculptor , you absolutely must take a live drawing class or research anatomy . You can ’ t sculpt something that you don ’ t have an understanding of and you cannot correct your mistakes unless you can see them . Working from reference is extremely important whether it ’ s an anatomy model or your own face in the mirror . If you talk to any sculptor , they will tell you the same . We ’ re all just sculptors who happen to work in sugar instead of clay , so the same principles apply .
You spent some time here in Australia in 2016 teaching . Do you have any plans to return ?

Australia is an amazing place ! I never knew I would enjoy it so much and would love to return when my daughter is a little older so she can really appreciate the wonders we experienced ! We camped a lot when I was a kid and spent a lot of time exploring nature and going to museums and I feel like that really shaped me as a person . I definitely want to give Avalon the same experiences . more information
