Step 1:
Find your inspiration * Once you have decided on the theme of your cake design, it is time to research and find your inspiration. Use design or art books( even kids books can be useful for this!) and Google search, making sure you vary your terms to get the best results. The more you know about a topic the easier it is. Take the time to think about the design, its scale and how it will interact with the shape and style of your cake.
Step 2:
Create your image Once you have your inspiration, you are ready to create a design to paint. When putting together a collage or“ street art” style of image, start with the large focal points and build in smaller detail. Think of what you want to be the bold statement of the cake and use texture or geometric designs to fill in blank space.
Step 3:
Trace Lay your image flat and cover with a piece of tracing or baking paper, securing the edges of the paper together. Trace the outline of the image onto the tracing paper with a non toxic lead pencil, making sure you copy all of the outline and also any important finer details.
* Remember to respect the work of other artists and use the images to inspire you rather than for pure imitation.
