QLD Cake Camp
27-29 June 2014
The Sunshine State didn’t know what hit it last
month, when our group of lovely cakers arrived at
Mount Tamborine, ready for Cake Camp QLD!
There was ganache and cake as far as the eye
could see, as students got stuck into their classes.
Everything was looking sharp
(yes we are referring to lots of
sharp edges) over in Handi
Mulyana’s Foundation course.
Handi showed students all the
fundamentals they need to know
about cake decorating including
ganaching a cake, covering the
cake board, colouring fondant
and how to make an adorable
teddy for the top of their cake.
They even had time to make a
super cute baby topper as well!
Greg Cleary (below left) blew away the winter chill
in his course, with lots of lovely blooms. Students
learnt how to perfect peonies, romantic roses and
morning glory.

Greg also shared his tips and tricks for creating
hand cut filler flowers, gorgeous foliage and perfectly arranging the finished flowers on the cake.
Regine Duff (left) enrolled in
Greg’s class and loved every
minute of it. “I loved learning
to make beautiful flowers,
learning about the tools and
the tips in person was
fantastic. The small class
was great and allowed for
one on one teaching."
Greg didn’t want the weekend to end. “The highlight for
me was teaching in a
gorgeous environment, with
keen students who were all
so lovely. They were willing
to help one another and
willing to share with each
other. And the gorgeous
cakes and flowers at end of
class made all students
extremely happy."
There was no controlling Janet O'Sullivan’s class as they rocked out the weekend.
Her lucky students learnt how to make life sized replica guitars. “I had a wonderful
group of students” Janet said.
Students in this class learnt to build a good structure for their guitar cake, as well
as how to carve and cover the large 3D shape, all while maintaining realistic
proportions.
