Make some wood grain fondant by mixing together some light brown fondant with
dark brown fondant. Roll out your fondant and using a circle cutter cut out a circle
large enough to fit in the door gap.
Apply piping gel to the door area and adhere the brown fondant.
The piping gel allows the fondant to slide and stretch into the arched gap.
Use a small round cutter to cut out a window hole.
Color some fondant in a light blue.
Apply piping gel to the window gaps
Roll out your light blue fondant quite thin and cut out circles the same size as your
window.
Apply your window pieces.
Using flower and leaf glaze paint your windows and doors for a subtle glossy look
Step 14:
Add trim to your windows and door using thin strips of
dark brown fondant.
An extruder is wonderful for this.
If the brown does not stick on its own use a tiny bit of
water.
Step 15 and 16:
To cover your board colour your white fondant with
moss green food colouring
Roll to the size of your base board
Cut a small hole in the fondant to thread it over your
centre dowel
Once on your board ensure it covers the entire board.
Wet a paint brush and gently life the fondant and wet
your base board to adhere you fondant to your board
Trim your fondant using your Clear Cake Scraper at a
45 degree angle.
Step 17:
Using a wilt on 1M piping
tip add some texture to
your board to resemble
grass.
Step 18:
To pop your mushroom
base on your board apply
a healthy amount of super
glue to your centre dowel
Avoid the section where
you cake will sit
Allow the glue to dry for a
minute to ensure it does
not melt the styro
Using a pastry brush and a very hot mix of 1:1 water
and sugar syrup paint your cake top with your hot
syrup
This will iron out any cake bumps and apply a tacky
coating ready for covering
Apply piping gel to the underside of your cake
Roll out some white fondant to the size of your 8” cake
board and cut a hole in the centre just smaller than the
diameter of the top of your mushroom base. Cut and
slit in the fondant and apply to the underside of your
cake board.
Trim where necessary using a knife or sharp blade
Step 19:
Insert your mushroom
base and push down
quickly to avoid the glue
drying to quick.
The glue will hold the
mushroom base in place.
I dirtied up the mushroom
base with some cream
and brown petal dust
Step 20, 21 and 22:
Unplug your glue gun and
allow it to cool slightly.
Apply glue to the top of
your mushroom base.
Cooling the glue gun
means your glue cools
and does not melt the
styro. Pop your prepared
cake on top.
Step 23:
I use the bevel of our
Clear Cake Scrapers to
ensure the fondant is
firmly adhered.
Step 24:
Using the back of a knife
impression lines in to
the fondant to mimic the
underside of a typical
mushroom
