Also close to her heart is the need to give
back and ‘pay it forward’, by proudly supporting
local charities River’s Gift and Friend in Me.
“Unfortunately during this time charities have
really struggled. They haven’t been able to run
the events that they’d normally run throughout
the year.” Cara’s goal is to donate $30,000 in the
next 12 months to River’s Gift, which financially
supports important research into SIDS.
“I feel this gives me a platform to pay it forward.
I haven’t had an easy start to life, and I’ve
overcome a lot of adversity. I’m where I am
because of people that cared, and people who
have taken me under their wing. When we
haven’t been able to afford food, they’ve turned
up on our doorstep with meals. So now I take
every single opportunity in my success to pay it
forward. Every time I succeed, I look at that and
ask myself how I can use that to help another
person or another family.”
