KEEPING “COOL” THIS WINTER:
A Guide to Men's Winter fashion by Cathy Quach
1) The Perfect Parka
When the windchill is so punishing, you can always bundle up in a good-old parka to keep you warm. Be sure to invest in a good-quality parka that will last you years. Down jackets are always reliable, and try to keep the colour dark and neutral. Keep in mind the fit – you should be able to bundle layers underneath without looking too bulky.
2) Ready-to-Trek-Boots
Sneakers don’t make the cut for winter. It is important to find a durable pair of boots that will keep your feet warm and dry. A waterproof pair of boots with a gripped sole paired with wool socks will ensure that you don’t get caught slipping and wet this winter.
3) Down Vest
For those days where the winter isn’t too harsh, the down vest provides a nice change from the usual winter jacket. Paired with jeans, boots, collared shirt, or a long-sleeve thermal, the down vest is a cool and simple way to stay warm.

As the temperature begins to creep below zero, gentlemen: it’s time to step up your layering game. Staying warm does not necessarily have to imply wearing sweatpants and long-johns (although they are essential!). There are ways to stay warm, and look cool this winter without impersonating the Michelin Man. Here are some must-haves you need in your closet to make it through the frigid days ahead. Bring on the cold!
5) Basics for Layering
Layer, layer, layer! Pick up some basic long-sleeves and long-johns to wear underneath your sweaters. You’ll be surprised how much of a difference layering makes when it comes to keeping warm. Don’t overdo it though; you wouldn’t want to be sweating in an excessive amount of layers. I’m sure your girlfriend wouldn't appreciate all the layers either.
4) Accessories: Hats, Scarves and Gloves
At the risk of sounding like your mom, put on your hat, scarf, and gloves, boys. Nothing is worse than a guy who thinks he's too tough to dress as warmly as possible for winter. Here’s your chance to add some colour to contrast the neutral winter parka.
