CHALLENGES
CAI’s work in Pakistan was put on hold for several
months in 2019 when the Pakistani government
made changes to the regulations governing nonprofit
organizations’ operations. Fortunately, later
in the year, CAI was able to partner with two incountry
organizations. This allowed us to resume
support to remote mountain communities in
Gilgit-Baltistan, where CAI got its start in 1996.
SUCCESSES
The quality of education that a student receives
depends on the quality of the teacher providing
the instruction. In 2019, 216 teachers from remote
mountain communities went through a professional
development course funded by CAI. At the training
the educators learned important lessons about
students’ learning styles, child development,
techniques for engaging parents in their child’s
education, and much more. Roughly 170 schools
were represented at the event.
