In 2026, Central Asia Institute will mark a milestone three decades in the making.
Thirty years ago, CAI was founded on a simple but radical belief: that education changes everything— and that no community is too remote, too overlooked, or too small to deserve it. What followed were years of perseverance. Through shifting political landscapes, geographic isolation, recurrent disasters, and the countless obstacles that come with working in one of the world ' s most challenging environments, CAI has endured.
That resilience is not a coincidence. It is a reflection of the people we serve.
The same determination that drives a girl like Sughra from student to principal or compels a woman like Saida to pursue her own dairy business— that spirit lives inside CAI too.
We have never stopped showing up— and neither have you— because the communities we support have never stopped believing in what education makes possible.
This anniversary is more than a celebration of the past. It is a launchpad for what comes next. In 2026, CAI is developing a new strategic plan. Our goal is not just to take stock of all that we’ ve learned and achieved, but to set our sights on the wondrous possibilities ahead.
Stay tuned. The best chapter is still being written.
